Recent studies have revealed that (in reality), there exist four distinct species of day adder. Until recently — only one species was acknowledged within this genus. This genus contains vipers that possess horns situated above their eyes.
Males have paired subcaudals numbering between 32 and 46, while females have between 23 and 38. Males typically exhibit 132 to 150 ventral scales, whereas females show a range of 132 to 158.
